On the 10/11/10, the National Union of Students is holding a demonstration in London. This is because the Higher Education budget is taking an unrealistic and swingeing cut- basically only sciences will be preserved in cash terms, and the teaching budget is being bulldozed. The UK has the best university system in Europe, and any cuts will necessarily mean an increase in fees (and thus, directly, student debt).
Know this: universities have been underfunded for many years. This is why top up fees were introduced. With numbers being at record levels, Universities need more funding, not less. There are better ways of raising funds than simply labouring many with debt, or discouraging them totally from entering education and remaining unskilled.
